Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 27, 2026
SnakePress is a desktop app for Windows made by Leo (Tinh Leo). It is built to work on your PC without an account. This page explains what the app does and does not do with your data.
What stays on your computer
- Screenshots, screen recordings, edited images, videos and projects are saved only to folders on your PC (by default
Pictures\SnakePress, or a folder you choose). - Settings and your license status are stored locally in the app's data folder.
- Webcam background effects and auto subtitles (speech recognition) run entirely on your PC. Camera images and voice recordings are never uploaded.
What we do not collect
- No account, no sign-in.
- No analytics, telemetry, tracking or advertising.
- We do not upload, read or share your captures, recordings or files.
When the app connects to the internet
Only for these specific actions:
- Optional downloads you approve: the video engine (FFmpeg), the webcam background model and the speech recognition model are downloaded from their official public sources the first time you choose to use those features. These are plain file downloads; no personal data is sent.
- License activation: if you enter a Gumroad license key, the key is checked with Gumroad's license API (Gumroad privacy policy). Keys bought another way (MoMo, Buy Me a Coffee) are checked by their signature. A license works on up to 3 of your PCs, so when you activate, remove, or (about once a month) re-check a license, the app sends to our activation server (snakepress.tinhtd.info): the license key, an anonymous machine ID (a one-way SHA-256 hash of the Windows machine ID; it cannot be traced back to you), your computer name (so you can tell your PCs apart if you hit the limit) and the app version. The server stores only hashes of the key and machine ID, plus the computer name and the first/last time it was seen. Removing the license in the app deletes that PC's record. Details: /activate.
- Updates: the version installed from GitHub checks GitHub for a newer release. The Microsoft Store version is updated by the Microsoft Store.
- Links you click (website, payment pages, support) open in your web browser.
Payments
Payments are handled by Gumroad, MoMo or Buy Me a Coffee under their own privacy policies. If you email us for a license key, we use your email address only to reply and to keep a record of the key we issued.
Children
SnakePress does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
